Moraine Valley Community college ranks among top three percent of the 2839 public and private two and four year institutions nationwide that confer associate degrees, according to a national newspaper report. Moraine Valley also ranks third in the nation in associate degrees conferred in Multi/Interdisciplinary Studies (science transfer programs).
The report, published in Community College Week, is based on an analysis of U.S. Department of Education data for the 2012-13 academic year.
“Our high national ranking is testament to the college’s outstanding efforts at increasing student success,” Dr. Sylvia M. Jenkins, president of the college, said.
That effort continued in 2013-14. Moraine Valley awarded a total of 3,079 degrees and certificates, a 13 percent increase compared with 2012-13 and a 50 percent increase over the past five years. The total number of degrees and certificates awarded by the college to date is 57,680.
