Former Oak Lawn Trustee Cynthia Trautsch (Dist. 1) is challenging Mayor Sandra Bury’s friend and supporter, current Trustee Tim Desmond (Dist. 1) and going high tech with a video that criticizes Desmond’s legal problems with the State Board of Elections, his friendship with local attorney Burton Odelson and a contract awarded to Odelson after he provided free legal services to Desmond.
The friendship was ironically cited by Odelson and Desmond during Desmond’s hearing before the Illinois State Board of Elections. Both men claimed that they were friends and that Odelson was providing legal services “free of charge”. When Odelson was appointed as the Village’s adjudicator at a yearly fee of $30,000 for working two nights a month and approximately 4 hours a month critics charged that the arrangement was “unethical”. Questions arose as to whether Odelson’s free legal services for Desmond had anything to do with his appointment. To make matters worse for Desmond, he failed to disclose his relationship with Odelson and did not abstain on the vote.
Desmond claimed that people should not question Odelson’s credentials. Trautsch has now taken the scandal and made a video. Trautsch is supported by former Mayor Dave Heilmann and former Village Trustee Jerry Hurckes.
