Earth Day’s 45th anniversary is this year and Earthday.org is hoping that it is the most exciting year in environmental history. The year in which economic growth and sustainability join hands. The year in which world leaders finally pass a binding climate change treaty. The year in which citizens and organizations divest from fossil fuels and put their money into renewable energy solutions. These are tough issues but we know what’s at stake is the future of our planet and the survival of life on earth. On Earth Day we need you to take a stand so that together, we can show the world a new direction. It’s our turn to lead. So our world leaders can follow by example.
Earth Day occurs on April 22, 2015 according to earthday.org.
The Oak Lawn Park District and Village of Oak Lawn will be celebrating Earth Day on Saturday, May 2, from 10:00am – 2:00pm, at the Earth Day Faire, sponsored by ComEd.
The May 2nd event is located at Wolfe Wildlife Refuge located at 109th St. and Lawler Ave, in Oak Lawn where residents can participate in a variety of family-fun activities including Jim Nesci’s Cold Blooded Creatures, Big Run Wolfe Ranch, tree climbing, kids crafts, education on green living, gardening and composting, a milkweed and heirloom tomato plant sale, and more.
Admission is free and there will be raffles.
New this year is a scavenger hunt on the playground at 10:00am.
Earth Day is a day that is intended to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth’s natural environment.
May 2nd is also the much anticipated boxing bout between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao in Las Vegas. Apparently it is a coincidence that the village leaders chose a fight day for an Earth Day celebration.
