Who is representing the residents of District 1? Trustee Tim Desmond, recently elected to his 2nd term in office as representative of District 1, has been missing many meetings. Since winning reelection, Desmond has missed at least 4 Village meetings and left early from two others.
The Leaf has previously written about Desmond having ditched the June 9th meeting, but it now appears as though he is making a habit of it. A review of recent meeting minutes shows that Desmond has been absent from meetings on May 7th, June 4th, June 17th, July 14th, and left early on June 9th and August 11th.
This is a position that Desmond spent nearly $11,000 of campaign funds to acquire. This is a position in which Desmond earned $11,039.72 last year, paid for by Village taxpayers. A salary which gets paid whether he shows up or not.
When informed of Desmond’s attendance problems while waiting in line at Jason’s Deli, a District 1 resident named George said, “I wonder how I can get paid not to show up at my job. Must be nice.” When asked if his statement could be used on the record, George answered, “Yeah. No. Just use my first name. The way things are going, he’d show up next meeting and vote me out of my house.”
