Oak Lawn Village Trustee Robert Streit (Dist.3) celebrated his 60th birthday at his first Family Baseball Bash fundraiser Friday night at the Standard Bank Stadium where fans of the Windy City Thunder Bolts and Streit watched the Bolts defeat the Joliet Slammers 3-2.
Streit’s overflow crowd were treated to food and drinks while enjoying the local Frontier League battle between Windy City and Joliet. While technically a fundraiser for Streit’s political committee, the veteran Village Trustee (Dist. 3) did not make political speeches although he told us that he was able to meet and greet everyone who was able to show up for the event. “This was designed as a nice event for friends and families to meet at a game and enjoy the evening,” said Streit.
Streit has served as a Village Trustee since 1991 and has been critical of current Mayor Sandra Bury calling her the “worst Mayor to ever serve Oak Lawn”. While several residents at the event talked openly about Streit challenging Bury in the next election, Streit would not comment on the speculation. “We aren’t going to have any speeches tonight and we all should just enjoy our families,” said Streit. He was surrounded by his friends and family, including wife, Linda, and his sons, Christopher and Robert as the guests sang “Happy Birthday”.
Streit has operated a third district constituent office to serve the residents of District 3. He is the only Oak Lawn Trustee to staff and pay for such an office. He said that over the years, he has relied on contributions to pay for the services and staff members. In addition, he has used his own funds to supplement those donations.
