First it was the license plate renewals. Now, the same problem is occuring with emissions test notices for Illinois car owners.
The Illinois State Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced it will not be sending out notices for emissions tests to registered vehicle owners due to the Illinois budget problems.
The emissions tests are required for car owners to renew their license plates but the EPA has decided to follow Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White’s idea and not send out renewals in the mail. White made the decision to stop mailing license plate renewals back in December due to budget issues.
The EPA made the decision months ago and it is finally catching up with the owners who now can’t renew their license plates.
If you own a car, the best way to protect yourself is to sign up for electronic notices from the Illinois Secretary of State. White’s office is sending out email notices for the plate renewal. That notice will alert you as to whether the vehicle emissions test is required.
