Oak Lawn police charged another Chicago resident after once again enduring verbal abuse during a traffic stop for speeding.
An officer, while patrolling on 95th Street witnessed Ryan Glover, a black male from Chicago, drive past the squad car going 51 mph at about 2:30 a.m. Monday. Glover didn’t stop immediately according to the police report but eventually stopped in a Speedway Gas Station at 6030 W. 95th Street when the officer alerted him by using the car’s air horn.
The officer’s report states that he could smell “freshly burnt cannabis” coming from Glover’s car while he was asking for his license and proof of insurance. Glover provided the officer with his license and insurance and was told to wait in his car. However, as the officer returned to the squad, he saw Glover walking toward the gas station “unfastening the belt from his pants”. The officer asked Glover where he was going, according to the report. He allegedly replied, that he was “Going to take a piss.” While in the Speedway, he allegedly called a worker there a “punk bitch” and paced around the store.
When Glover returned to the car, approximately seven minutes later, the officer approached again and smelled a strong odor of burnt cannabis. The officer attempted to explain the court diversion program but noted that Glover became confused by the instructions and did not want to sign as bond. The officer reported that Glover`s eyes appeared to be bloodshot and “appeared glazed and watery”.
The report stated that the officer smelled a strong odor of alcohol while speaking with Glover. The officer asked why he could smell cannabis and Glover allegedly argued, “You don’t smell any weed”.
When the officer asked if he could search the vehicle, he replied “You can do whatever you want.” The officer reported that he found a half smoked cannabis cigarette in the ashtray.
Glover refused to take the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. He also allegedly refused to cooperate when the officer asked him to follow his finger with his eyes. The officer reported that Glover was unable to keep his body still and “swayed from side to side while standing at the rear of his vehicle”. Glover was arrested from Driving Under the Influence.
While the officer was getting a statement from the employee in the Speedway, Glover was in the squad car. When the police officer returned to the squad Glover was allegedly sleeping in the back of the car. He found a large amount of spit on the driver’s seat and steering wheel of the car. The officer wiped down the seat and steering wheel before transporting Glover to the station.
The alleged behavior didn’t stop after the car nap as Glover reportedly began verbally abusing booking officers with racial slurs according to the police report. Glover allegedly called another officer a “red neck bitch” and “cracker” and was allegedly uncooperative in the process until the officers removed his shoes. Glover allegedly continued to verbally abuse the officers and allegedly yelled “fucking cracker” numerous times. While removing his clothes, Glover stated he “Smokes weed, f…. bitches, and has a big black d….”
He refused to submit to the breath test or provide a urine sample. He then began insulting another officer calling the officer a “hillbilly bitch” and a “cracker” and a “honky ass bitch”. Glover continued verbally abusing the officer stating he “f…..” the officer’s mother, wife and daughter.
The officer reported that Glover at one point seemed concerned for the outcome of his arrest and how it would affect his family financially. He asked the officer what he had been arrested for and was told “driving under the influence of alcohol and cannabis”. After being told, Glover said he had not been driving anywhere and seemed confused according to the report. At one point he attempted to flood his cell and ripped up the bedding provided.
Glover was charged with speeding over the statutory limit, Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Driving Under the Influence of Drugs, having an Expired Registration, and Possession of cannabis of less than 2.5 grams.
At about 7:50 a.m., additional police units were called to help transport Glover to court. He allegedly had been kicking the walls and door of the vehicle and was yelling “cracker bitches” and “this is some white bullsh..”. When Glover arrived at Bridgeview for bond court, he asked another officer what he was arrested for and stated that he could not remember being in Oak Lawn or any of the events prior to arriving in court.
