Oak Lawn Police recently sent out an Everbridge alert to notify residents of burglaries to vehicles. The offender targets motorists at gas stations while they’re pumping gas.
In Oak Lawn, two burglaries were reported at the BP gas station at 111th St and Pulaski Rd. Both victims were pumping gas when the offender drove up along the passenger side of the victim’s vehicle. While the victims were preoccupied, the offender would enter the passenger side and remove items from the vehicle. The passenger side doors were unlocked.
The offender is described as a male of average height and build, between the ages of 25 to 35, of unknown race.
Police described the vehicle as an older 2-door Honda Accord. The Accord is gold colored, with a sunroof. It also had no front license plate. Other communities in the area have also reported similar incidents involving the same vehicle. The vehicle was reported to have a dealer license plate on the rear in several other incidents.
Police remind motorists to lock their doors and make sure their windows are up when they’re not able to maintain a line of sight on their vehicle. It’s also been suggested to not leave any valuables in plain sight within a vehicle.
If anyone sees a suspicious subject, they’re asked to call Oak Lawn Police by dialing 911.
