Steven Green, of Worth, and was arrested Tuesday, November 15th, when he fled from officers on routine patrol near 111th Street and Jodan Drive.
As an Oak Lawn police officer patrolled northbound on Jodan Drive, he noted Green casually walking eastbound across the street. When Green saw the police squad car, he began to run eastbound into the yards of homes on the 11000 block of Jodan Drive towards Deblin Drive.
Oak Lawn police dispatched further units to the area, to set up a perimeter to contain Green. While going yard to yard, police located Green in a backyard. The homeowner was roused from sleep, went to his rear door, and was alarmed to find Green in his yard.
When officers took Green into custody, he first stated that he was walking home from work, eastbound on 111th and turned into the subdivision to urinate off the main street. Green was carrying about $60 in loose change in a backpack. Green stated that he carries the change for bus fair.
Officers checked the area for possible vehicle burglaries, but found none. Since it was early in the morning, there was still dew on the grass. Officers were able to follow Green’s footprints through the grass. His tracks led back to Tomcin Trail and Cook Avenue. From there, the tracks could be followed to numerous vehicles which were parked on the street. The path of travel did not match Green’s story that he was walking eastbound on 111th Street then northbound on Jodan.
When officers told Green that they would be checking with his employer, Green changed his story. He then stated that he went to work, but it was closed, so he was returning home. The address Green gave for his residence was west of where he was first seen, contrary to the direction he was traveling. Green then stated that he often pan handles, and that was why he had so much loose change.
Chicago Ridge Police Department was contacted. CRPD dispatchers advised OLPD that they had just dispatched Worth Police Department to a location in Worth for burglaries to motor vehicles. Green’s information was passed to Worth PD as a possible suspect
Steven Green was charged with disorderly conduct and criminal trespass to property.
