Diamond Butler, a 26 year old black female from Chicago, was arrested recently for assault and resisting arrest after Oak Lawn Police officers were called to Kelly Kean Nissan in response to a complaint.
Butler drove her car to Kelly Kean Nissan’s service department and received an estimate on her brakes, which had been apparently making a “grinding noise” according to the police report. Kelly Kean’s employees reportedly told Butler that the brakes on her 2012 Nissan Rogue had worn down to the metal making the vehicle “unsafe to drive”.
The service department employees told police officers that the dealership provided estimates on the work that Butler did not like and which the employees believed caused her to become irate and allegedly yell obscenities at the staff.
Diamond allegedly insisted on driving even though the department employees advised against it and continued to offer alternatives. The employees claim that Diamond continued to shout and create a disturbance. According to the report, Diamond then ran behind the counter, refused to leave the area behind the counter, and then threatened to “tear up this place” if she didn’t get her vehicle back.
The witnesses told police officers that Diamond then grabbed a stapler, allegedly waved the makeshift weapon over her head, and then allegedly said, “If no one brings my car up I’m going to bash someone’s head open with this stapler.”
According to police reports, one of the employees was able to temporarily calm Diamond down and move her to an office where she was told that she would have to sign a waiver acknowledging that she was told the car was unsafe. She was told that she would have to accept all responsibility if she drove the car off the lot, according to the report. Diamond allegedly didn’t like that idea.
According to the report, Diamond responded, “I’m not signing sh..”
When the police arrived, Diamond claimed the service employees were lying and allegedly began to pound the desk in what was described by officers as “erratic behavior”. Diamond allegedly refused to provide identification and began to use her cell phone.
The police officer placed a handcuff on Diamond and she allegedly resisted this attempt to take her into custody. The police alleged in the report that Diamond attempted to bite one of the officers, spit on an officer, kicked the chair out from under herself and remained uncooperative.
The police claim that while waiting for a transport unit, Diamond allegedly continued to make threats stating, “I’m gonna come back to the (police) station with my boyfriend and his friends to f..k your s..t up”. She was charged with assault and resisting arrest.
