An Alsip woman was cited for leaving the scene of an accident and reckless driving after allegedly being involved with an accident that involved a dog being walked by its owner.
On January 13th, the woman was driving at 93rd and Oak Park and made a left turn to travel west when she allegedly hit a dog, named Gypsy. The dog’s owner told the police that he fell trying to protect his dog but that he wasn’t hit by the car himself. The driver of the car and the owner agree that the two exchanged words at that point.
The dog owner, who the police did not identify, said that when he got up from the ground, he noticed that the driver had stopped and he began to yell at the driver. He told the police that the driver was an “Arab female with a white scarf on her head”. Another witness, also not identified by the police, said she followed the driver, who she said was driving recklessly on Oak Park Avenue. The other witness was able to identify the auto and the license plate number.
The driver, later identified as 37 year old Raneem Ramzi Sheblak, was tracked to Alsip based on the plate registration information. Sheblak allegedly admitted to being involved in an accident but claimed she had not seen the dog. She said when she noticed the dog, she stopped. However, she said that the dog’s owner was angry and was yelling. Sheblak said she was scared and didn’t know what to do, according to the police report. She was arrested for leaving the scene of property damage accident and reckless driving.
The dog, Gypsy, was walking around when the police arrived. There is a Raneem Sheblak from Alsip registered and licensed as a dentist in Illinois. At this time, we cannot confirm if this is the same person in the accident.
