Sunday Morning and Afternoon Surprises
Mayor Sandra Bury and her allies, including District 1 Trustee Tim Desmond, finally decided to respond to residents in Oak Lawn. On Sunday morning Tim Desmond called constituents in District 1 expressing his displeasure with some people who had posted “Streit for Mayor” lawn signs. Our source told us on Sunday that Desmond told the homeowners he was disappointed and then proceeded to smear Streit with a wild story. Not to be outdone, Mayor Sandra Bury used Saturday afternoon to visit District 6 where she knocked on doors of homes that displayed Streit/Palermo signs. The Mayor used a more nuanced delivery with homeowners asking several people why “a girl like Palermo would run with a guy like Streit”. She “asked” the homeowner to consider putting up a “Bury sign” apparently willing to throw her running mate under the bus. However, Bury was told that the signs weren’t coming down. Nobody admitted telling the Mayor that Palermo is a woman and a mother, not a little girl but one resident did tell us it reminded them of Bury’s admonishment of former Trustee Carol Quinlan. Bury once told her to sit down and be quiet like a good little Trustee.
The District 1 resident said that Desmond was unresponsive in the past to complaints in the neighborhood. The District 6 residents who reported the visits said that the Mayor has never responded to complaints in the past and the first time they ever heard from her was when the sign went up. Perhaps a sign for the opposition will get you a personal visit?
District 4 Resident Takes Bury’s Advice and Throws One Candidate Under the Bus
While Sandra Bury was busy assassinating the character of her opponent and asking 6th District residents to take down their signs in exchange for her sign, a District 4 resident had an interesting take on vote splitting. The resident in question decided to cut Bury out of his sign by literally cutting the Bury/Vorderer sign in half. The resident couldn’t be reached for comment but other residents have reported that Bury/Vorderer signs “appeared” on their lawns without permission. Some residents said they had supported Vorderer in the past but are not supporting Vorderer or Bury. The owner of the half sign must have decided to cut the baby in half. Ironically, Vorderer, who was claimed to be an independent, has been in lock step with Sandra Bury on every issue.
Oakileaks Reveals More Personnel Interference by Phelan
On the signs he shares with Mayor Bury, Tom Phelan claims he’s running for re-election for Trustee. It does seem like he never let go of the controls of government although he’s not a Trustee right now. Oakileaks has once again outed Phelan for interference with personnel issues. In this leaked email, Phelan is upset that the village manager hasn’t fired someone fast enough and paid them to leave.
Phelan has such strength behind his demands that he can make people feel sorry for Village Manager Larry Deetjen, who appears to quiver in his boots telling Phelan that he is operating in the abundance of caution. Of course that comes after Phelan makes it clear that he will have the votes on the board for a severance agreement to buy the employee out for the two months that she planned on staying. Did Deetjen ever tell the other board members that the idea for the severance was Phelan’s? How much did the taxpayers waste on that vendetta?
