A white male and white woman in their forties were arrested recently after coming to Oak Lawn to visit a sick relative and allegedly spinning stories that would be ripe for a sitcom or a reality show.
Shan John was arrested for driving on a suspended or revoked license, not having front or rear registration on the car and speeding. His wife, Sabrina Adams, was charged with felony ossession of a controlled substance and one misdemeanor possession of drug equipment.
The adventure started when officers in an unmarked police squad noticed the Honda with no plates allegedly driving faster than the speed limit in the left lane as it passed the officers. After pacing the car, the officers decided to pull the vehicle over.
The driver, Shan John, said that they were going to Advocate Christ Hospital to visit a relative. The officers informed John that he was traveling the wrong way and asked for his identification. He allegedly didn’t have his license with him and allegedly told officers that he wasn’t sure if it was revoked or suspended. A check of the system revealed that John’s California license had been suspended. He was placed in custody and told the officers that they could search his vehicle allegedly stating, “there’s nothing in the car officers, you can search all you want”.
The officers did search the vehicle finding the license plates sitting on the back seat. The officer asked Sabrina Adams, who was listed as the owner of the car, why the plates weren’t on the car as required. Her response, according to the police, “I’m sorry officer it’s because my husband is too lazy to put it on”.
Adams wasn’t done with the quips. when the officers found what they believed to be marijuana, they reportedly asked Adams if the marijuana was her pot. She allegedly answered, “yes, officer that is my marijuana it is because I have cancer”. She was allegedly unable to produce a medical marijuana card when asked.
When the officers found two loose pills that they believed to be a controlled substance, Adams allegedly admitted that the pills were hers, stating, “those are my pain pills for my cancer I have a prescription”.
Adams allegedly complained about being cold and needing a blanket. She then allegedly told the police, “I have cancer, I’m bleeding from my vagina, from my stomach cancer, I need to sit”.
After police found “a pipe”, Adams allegedly admitted, “that’s mine to smoke my marijuana”.
Adams was unable to produce any prescriptions despite being allowed to search for one for about 15 minutes according to the police. She also allegedly took issue with being arrested, stating, “you are not really going to arrest me for two pills? the judge is going throw that sh.. out. I have a prescription”.
Both Adams and John were transported to the Oak Lawn lockup where Adams continued to allegedly converse with detention aides and police detectives. When Adams was told the officer was going to read her the Miranda Warning letting her know her rights, she allegedly began yelling, “no, no, no, you arrested me without reading me my rights. No, no, no, I’m going to sue you….”.
Despite John’s admonishment to his wife to cooperate and calm down, she allegedly continued making charges claiming she was having a heart attack and even stating that she was going to claim she was raped.
She was transported to the hospital to make sure she wasn’t having a heart attack. Both John and Adams provided addresses in Ventura, California.
