When Khalil Quran called the police a squad was sent to investigate what was termed a hit and run by Quran.
The officer claimed that he could smell alcohol on Quran’s breath and had bloodshot eyes. The officer also claimed that Quran was mumbling his words and was slurring.
Quran showed the officer damage to the front passenger side of the car which appeared to have yellow paint on the damage. Quran told the officer that his car was struck by another car, which he allegedly described as a “dark green, dark blue, or black Jeep Cherokee” near Menard and 90th Street.
The officer questioned Quran’s story and determined that the other car could not have been traveling in the direction noted by Quran and cause the damage claimed by Quran. He was unable to explain why yellow paint was on the car if a dark car had hit his car. The police searched the area, including surrounding streets and couldn’t find any evidence that a crash occurred.
When the officer asked Quran if he had been drinking, he allegedly stated that he had two Miller Lites and a shot of Vodka earlier in the night. He also said he had taken two prescription medicines. It was now about 2 a.m.
A breath test allegedly revealed a blood alcohol level of .089. A later test, however, showed a .063 level. He was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Driving under the combined influence of alcohol/drugs and operating a vehicle without insurance. Quran, a 24 year old white male provided an Oak Lawn address to officers.
