The Oak Lawn Park District recently announced various opportunities for residents to enjoy the parks, events, and outings sponsored by the district.
On Tuesday, July 11th, the Oak Lawn Park District is asking you to join for “A few kicks on Route 66”. Travel along the original world-famous Rt. 66 from Joliet to Pontiac on Tuesday, July 11th. Take a photo at iconic places like the Polk-A-Dot Restaurant, the Gemini Giant, and many others. Hear the history of the famous road and towns along the way.
There will be museum stops in Joliet and Pontiac. Lunch will be served at Bernardi’s Restaurant. Each participant will receive an Illinois Rt. 66 map!
Departure is at 8:30am from the Oak View Center, 4625 W. 110th St. Return to the Oak View Center at 5:30pm. The fee for residents is $79 and $89 for non-residents.
The Oak Lawn Park District’s Free Rec-Mobile program is also back for the summer. Billed as a great way to celebrate July as Parks and Recreation Month you can enjoy a traveling recreation program that brings games, sports, and arts and crafts to a different park for patrons to enjoy for free.
A visit to Wolfe Wildlife Refuge, 109th & Laramie, on Wednesday, July 12th. will allow you to watch the movie in the park after the regularly schedule recreational activities. The feature is “Space Jam”. The event is followed up by a trip on June 26th to c Columbus Manor, 99th & Moody, on Wednesday, June 26th for a Superheroes theme. Both events take place from 6:00-8:00pm, and are subject to cancellation based on weather.
The Oak Lawn Park District has a trip to Lake Geneva on Thursday, July 20th. The day will include an air conditioned cruise on Lake Geneva, shopping in downtown Lake Geneva, and lunch at the Historic Baker Mansion. Departure from the Community Pavilion, 9401 S. Oak Park Ave., is at 8:30A and return time is 7:30 using Travel Services Motor Coach. The fee for residents is $110 and $120 for non-residents.
Oak Lawn Park District Broadway Junior Theatre Production of “Oklahoma” is a must see and tickets are available. The production will run at the Oak View Center, 4625 W. 110th St., on Thursday, July 13, Friday, July 14, Saturday, July 15, and Sunday, July 16 at 7:00pm. A 3:00pm matinee is available on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $12 per person. Tickets are available at the Oak View Center, by phone at 708-857-2200, or online at www.showtix4u.com.
