An Oak Lawn police detective was near 91st and Cicero when he saw a man, dressed as a woman, leave the area of a Motel and walk southbound on Cicero Avenue. The police had previously observed the same man near this and another motel in Oak Lawn.
The detective tried to stop the man to talk to him and the man began to run. When the police identified themselves and caught up to him the man said he ran because he was scared because he had been “jumped before”.
The man was allegedly carrying a plastic bag and he reportedly agreed to let the police look inside, claiming that he didn’t have anything that was illegal. The Detective found a glass pipe and chore boy chopper mesh, used to smoke crack cocaine.
The man, identified himself as Miller Ely, allegedly complied with a request to take his shoe off revealing a bag allegedly containing cocaine. In the other shoe, another bag allegedly contained marijuana. Ely allegedly told police that he didn’t know he had the drugs until he took his shoe off.
Ely also told the police that he was living between two Oak Lawn motels for two weeks. Ely was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug equipment. Miller, a 32 year old white male, provided a Lombard address upon arrest.
