Police officers responded to the Oak Lawn Target for a disturbance and immediately heard a man screaming as they entered the ground floor. The man was in the customer service are, located on the second floor. The officer reported hearing the man yell “f… you, you a d… sucker” and other obscenities.
The officer reported that he looked up and saw a male black wearing a white shirt and red pants screaming. When the officer went up to the area, the man went down to the ground level. The officer eventually found the man on the ground floor in the parking garage area.
The man, identified as Dante McClain allegedly told the officer, “I lost my cool because they wouldn’t let me make a return.” The Target employees told the officer that McClain did attempt to return “cosmetic” products but the store policy doesn’t allow returns on the items he was trying to return.
According to the store employees, McClain became angry when he was told that the products could not be returned. The target employees claimed that McClain caused a disruption and alarmed store patrons by screaming. The employees called Target’s security personnel to the customer service area.
McClain allegedly continued yelling obscenities at the security guard and allegedly said, “I’m going to slap you so hard”. The police arrested McClain, 26 years old, who supplied a Chicago address. He was arrested for assault.
According to its internet site, Target’s return policy states:
Most unopened items in new condition and returned within 90 days will receive a refund or exchange. Some items have a modified return policy noted on the receipt, Target policy board (refund exceptions), Target.com or in the item department. Items that are opened or damaged or do not have a receipt may be denied a refund or exchange.
