Last Thursday night, a driver accused of driving under the influence drove into the hands of a police officer.
Dariusz Bartyczak, who was driving on a “temporary visitor’s driver’s license” was involved in an accident with an Oak Lawn Police officer’s squad. Bartyczak reportedly told the officer that the squad was hard to see because the “overhead” lights were not on.
The police apparently had other ideas on why Bartyczak was in the accident. The police alleged that Bartyczak had “bloodshot” eyes and breath that “smelled a strong odor of alcoholic beverage”. Bartyczak allegedly admitted to drinking one Corona beer at his brother’s house.
Bartyczak was dressed in a “full length fuzzy Bear costume”. He told the officers he was going home.
The police allege that Bartczak failed field sobriety tests. He was charged with one count of driving under the influence, not having a valid license with an expired insurance policy, failing to signal properly, making an improper turn, failure to yield turning left, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and damage to village property.
He was not cited for wearing a costume two days after Halloween.
