Oak Lawn Police officers arrived on the scene of a an alleged burglary to find two Oak Lawn residents holding another man on the ground in an alley near 96th and Melvina.
Davion Spearman was the man being held on the ground. The officer was told by the two men holding Spearman down that they had seen him inside a vehicle in the alley.
Someone had called saying that the two witnesses were following Spearman as he was “stumbling and checking car doors”.
The two men were originally alerted to the area when a car alarm went off while they were at a party nearby. They told the officer that they saw Spearman and began to follow him. The two witnesses told the officer that the cars were locked and Spearman was unable to get into any of the cars on 96th Street.
The two men claimed to have witnessed Spearman opening the door of one car and going through items int he car. Spearman allegedly noticed the two watching him and the two then confronted Spearman and held him until the police arrived. As he was placed in custody, he reportedly told the police he was just trying to get some cigarettes.
The owner of the vehicle was able to identify a bag as being one that was in the car. Spearman allegedly had it at the time the police arrived.
Spearman allegedly told the police that he didan’t remember opening the glove box or the center console of the car. He also didn’t remember trying to enter other cars. He did state that he was in the car in quesiton.
Spearman is a 29 year old black male who provided a Chicago address to the police.
