Small Business Saturday is tomorrow, the same day the Oak Lawn Chamber of Commerce will hold its
“Shop Oak Lawn” event in conjunction with the Village’s Santa on the Green.
The chamber is encouraging all Oak Lawn residents to shop small for all. The money spent in the community can stay in the community to help Oak Lawn businesses grow and network.
Small businesses have been asked to join the Chamber’s campaign to shop local by spreading awareness of their businesses at “Shops of Oak Lawn” to be held at the Oak Lawn Public Library. Businesses are not charged to be a vendor at this event. It’s a cost-free opportunity for businesses to showcase and sell their products and/or services to local residents.
Residents should be aware that all of the vendors have been encouraged to provide a children’s activity or giveaways at their table since this is a family event.
Every community member who attends “Shop Oak Lawn” on Nov. 25 from 12-3 PM will receive a Shopping Guide/Event Map. Chamber members can be listed in this Shopping Guide by noting something unique about their business or providing a coupon.
Attendees to the event will also receive a tote bag giveaway.
The Oak Lawn Chamber of Commerce is urging residents to “Shop local, support Oak Lawn businesses and make a difference”.
Small Business Saturday was an idea originated by credit card company American Express in 2010 to help small businesses gain exposure. By the year 2015, 95 million people, throughout all fifty states, recognized the day and shopped.
After ignoring your family on Thursday during Thanksgiving and during Black Friday Sales, Oak Lawn is offering a unique family environment that supports local businesses. Organizers believe that small business Saturday keeps local money in the community, creates jobs, and provides stability to small businesses that rely on local shoppers.
