Two men are charged with battery and disorderly conduct over a dispute about the use of dumbbells at LA Fitness in Oak Lawn.
A Chicago man told police officers that he was working out with 25 pound dumbbells at the LA Fitness at 87th and Cicero when two other younger men approached him in the free weight area. One of the men, identified as Bamba Dioum, told the victim that he and his friend, indentified as Jaevon Hamilton, (Pictured to the left) had to use the same 25 pound dumbbells.
The victim told the men that he wasn’t done with the dumbbells and they would have to share. The victim told police that Dioum then knocked one of the weights out of his hand and pushed him up against the mirror. Dioum allegedly said, “You ain’t gonna be using the dumbbells until we’re done.”
The victim claimed that when he saw the men were done with the dumbbells he grabbed them again. Dioum (pictured to the right) allegedly then hit the victim in the face with a closed fist and pushed him. According to the victim, Hamilton then tackled him and began punching him in the face.
According to the victim all three fell to the floor and club personnel rushed to the scene of the fight. The club’s manager told police that he pulled both Hamilton and Dioum off of the victim but noted that neither man would “calm down”. According to the manager, both Hamilton and Dioum were guests at the club and continued to try to get to the victim. The two left the club through the front door and the police were given a description of each man.
Both individuals were found behind the UHaul facility, at 8900 S. Cicero, in a fenced in area by Oak Lawn police officers. Both individuals were charged with Battery and disorderly conduct. Bamba Dioum is a 24 year old black male with a Chicago address. Jaevon Hamilton is a 20 year old black male with a Chicago address. The victim was a 50 year old man with a Chicago address.
