Oak Lawn police were called to the Home Depot on 95th Street for an alleged shoplifting report.
A woman was being held by the Home Depot loss prevention team, which claimed that they observed the woman remove tools from a shelf in the power tool aisle carry them toward the front of the store and allegedly past the registers without paying.
The loss prevention officer said he stopped the woman, identified as Jamie Wetzel, in the vestibule as she allegedly attempted to leave the store without paying. The loss prevention officer claimed that Wetzel had concealed a DeWalt Multi-tool in her purse, valued at $129.
Wetzel provided the officer with identification and a check of the system indicated that she was also wanted on a bond forfeiture warrant for a retail theft charge in Chicago.
After searching Wetzel, the police claimed that they found a multi-colored glass pipe inside the purse, which the police claimed was commonly used for smoking cannabis. The officer confirmed that suspicion by asking Wetzel what she used the pipe for and she responded, to “smoke weed”.
In addition to the bond forfeiture warrant, Wetzel was charged with retail theft and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Wetzel, a 31 year old white female, provided a Glendale Heights address to the police.
