Shortly before 7 p.m., on January 29th, one Oak Lawn resident reported a suspicious vehicle in the area of 110th and Pulaski. The witness told the dispatcher that a man exited the Black Chrysler 300 and was walking west bound on Dean Drive. The Chrysler was left running.
While the police officers searched the area for the man on foot, someone drove off in the Chrysler.
Another Oak Lawn resident on Dean Drive noticed that the police were in the area and he asked them what they were doing. The officers asked the man to check his backyard to see if the suspect had gone through it.
The homeowner entered his hard and found a man in a grey hoody, crouched down between the garage and the fence. When the homeowner approached the suspect, Bryon Kennix, he was allegedly punched on the left side of his stomach.
The homeowner absorbed the blow to the body and managed to grab Kennix to prevent him from leaving. He pinned him against the fence and called for one of the officers.
The police officer placed Kennix in custody for battery because he had punched the homeowner.
Kennix allegedly told the police that he and his girlfriend were driving fro Blue Island to Berwyn when the became embroiled in an argument. He claimed that he got out of his girlfriend’s car and she drove away. He told the police he called his brother for a ride and while he was waiting he saw the police in the area and became “scared”.
According to the police, Kennix told them that he attempted to run and hide from the police. While hiding from the police, he decided to hide in the wrong backyard of the homeowner he allegedly punched. He didn’t explain why he punched the homeowner.
Bryon Kennix is a 27 year old black male who provided a Berwyn address to the police. He was charged with battery and criminal trespass to real property. He has a February 28th court date.
