When Oak Lawn police arrived at the scene of a two car accident at 95th and Ridgeland, they found one vehicle was empty.
The alleged driver of the vehicle had reportedly left the scene on foot and was allegedly running eastbound on 95th Street according to a witness.
A second witness apparently convinced the driver, Dennis Black, to return to the scene with him and they both walked back to the scene. That witness told the police that Black was the driver of the one car and had witnessed him leave the vehicle.
The second car’s driver was going in and out of consciousness, according to the police, while he sat in his car. The paramedics began treating that driver, who was removed from the car on a stretcher and transported to the hospital.
The Oak Lawn police officer talked to Black, who was now standing at the side of the roadway. Black allegedly told the police that he was not the driver and that the driver was a “friend” who left the vehicle also. Even when told that witnesses had said Black was the driver, he continued to allegedly deny it.
The police learned that the reason for Black’s statement, was that the system showed Black’s driver’s license was revoked for a previous DUI. Black allegedly admitted to having one beer six hours prior to the crash. Black refused all sobriety tests.
Black was charged with operating a vehicle with a revoked license and operating a vehicle without insurance on January 24, 2018. Black is a 59 year old white male who provided an Oak Lawn address to the police.
