Arena Lanes, which was a hot button political issue in 2013 due to fights and disorderly conduct complaints against customers is back in the news despite claims by some village officials that the problems were fixed.
Monday night at about 9:20 p.m. the police were dispatched to the bowling alley for a call reporting a fight between a group of males and females on lanes 33 and 34.
Witnesses blamed one individual as the cause of the disturbance. According to the police, one witness said that a woman with gray hair and a gray jacket seated at lane 34 was causing the disturbance by making rude comments to all the bowlers on those two lanes.
One witness claimed that the gray haired woman appeared to be highly intoxicated and was yelling at him and others. He said the bowlers tolerated, or ignored, her comments until she extended her behavior to bowlers on lane 35.
The woman allegedly began yelling at two young girls, about seven and nine years old, who were bowling on lane 35. The witness confronted the woman and the woman allegedly did not back down and argued with the witness.
Three police officers claimed that the woman was rude and disrespectful toward them when they began to speak to her about the incident. One of the officers claimed that the grey haired woman made disrespectful comments about the officer’s height.
She refused to provide her name at first according to the police. Eventually, she told the police her name is Kelly Garner and gave a date of birth of 1990. The officer did not think it was likely that the woman was born in 1990.
She also allegedly claimed she didn’t have a middle name because she wasn’t born with one. The officers explained that providing false information to an officer is a crime. She insisted that she was born in 1990 and that was her correct name.
The officer asked her to leave the premises explaining that she was going to get an ordinance violation for disorderly conduct. According to the police she had to be asked several times to leave the premises and she continued to reply that she was going to stay and act the fool.
Her exit from the lanes allegedly continued in the same manner. According to the police, as Garner was walking up the stairs, she said, “you’re all f….ing ni….s”, while looking at the individuals on lane 33, who were all African Americans according to the police.
Outside, she told the police her name is Kelly O’Malley and gave a birth date in 1970, adding back those twenty years she had taken off earlier.
One of the witnesses told the police that he was alarmed and disturbed by her behavior. He signed a criminal complaint for disorderly conduct. O’Malley was handcuffed and charged with disorderly conduct and obstructing identification. She was given a court date of April 5th. O’Malley, a 48 year old white female, provided a Village of Worth address to the police.
Arena Lanes does have a liquor license and the information was noted on the report and will be provided to the Liquor Commissioner, Mayor Sandra Bury.
