A police officer on crossing guard detail March 8th witnessed a Buick Century crash inton the back of a Toyota Corolla.
The officer reported that he watched as the first car pulled to the side at Kostner and 99th Street but the Corolla’s driver glanced at the officer and then allegedly accelerated and fled the scene traveling westbound on 99th Street.
The officer radioed dispatch and proceeded to give chase to the car. The driver, identified as Khadijah Meeks, turned northbound on Kolmar as the officer active his emergency lights then onto 98th Street, where she stopped after running over a curb according to the officer.
When Meeks exited the vehicle, the officer told her to place her hands on her head. Meeks quickly complied and was taken into custody, without further incident.
The victim’s car, which was still at the corner, had only minor scratches but the victim did have a report filed out to make sure the damages were covered by insurance. During a search of the vehicle Meeks was driving, the officer could not find any insurance card. Meeks did not have a driver’s license, which had expired on November 23, 2013.
Meeks, a 23 year old black female, from Chicago, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, driving on an expired license, operating vehicle without insurance, and improper lane usage. She has a court date in Bridgeview on April 13th.
