Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School student, Katelynn Marquez, was recently honored at the prestigious All American Boy and Girl Ceremony hosted by Congressman Dan Lipinski at Moraine Valley Community College.
Marquez won 1st place in her division, with over a thousand applicants from schools across Illinois.
“I want to congratulate all of our winners as well as their families, teachers, coaches, clergy, friends, and others who have helped them along the way. The finalists are all well-rounded individuals, working hard in and out of the classroom, and making a difference in their communities,” Rep. Lipinski stated at the ceremony.
The All-American Boy and Girl Awards program recognizes young men and women in the Third Congressional District of Illinois who are involved in their community while excelling in the classroom and participating in extracurricular activities. All finalists received Congressional Recognition for their participation.
“We are both very proud of Katelynn, and all that she’s accomplished while in Middle School. She works very hard at everything that she does, and often surprises us with her ambitious ideas, and even more amazing outcomes. As part of this program, she responded to several written questions, about various topics, like her goals, her community service, and activities outside of school. She’s a very active girl and has a huge heart. We’re very proud of her,” said her Parents, Jesse and Maggie.
Katelynn submitted an essay and interviewed in front of a panel of judges and earned the top ranking for 8th-grade girls in the ceremony.
