What’s a Good Slogan for Oak Lawn?
“The Friendly Village” is taken as a slogan by the Village of Worth but if some movers and shakers get their way in Oak Lawn, the village will soon have its own motto or slogan. Oak Lawn’s motto was “Be Prudent, Be Safe”. Trustee William “Bud” Stalker has spoken about “branding” the town with the motto. Since Worth used “the Friendly Village” instead of “a Friendly Village” it looks like Oak Lawn will have to be creative.
Evergreen Park has an outdated motto of “Village of Churches” but with polls showing church attendance at historic lows, it may not be prudent to be known for your houses of worship.
Sacramento, California is known as City of Trees. While that may have been a good suggestion for Oak Lawn, it just wouldn’t seem right to adopt the name that a city in California already has taken.
Some towns use generic phrases like, “A great place to live” or “A great place work, live and play”. Other towns tie their major business enterprise into the motto. “The Antique City” plays upon the sale of antiques. “Birthplace of Kool-Aid links to the Kool-Aid business.” Oak Lawn’s largest employer is Advocate Christ Hospital so the village could adopt a name like “A Caring Community”.
We would like our readers to suggest slogans. We’ll start with our suggestion: “Village of the Oak Leaf”. Feel free to provide your own thoughts.
