A 24 year old Richton Park man will appear in court this Thursday to face DUI charges after two police departments, central dispatch and at least one helpful civilian worked in concert to apprehend the man.
The adventure began in Evergreen Park, when a patrol officer notified the dispatcher that a black Chevy was not stopping for him on 95th Street and the car was headed west. The Evergreen Park officer noted that the driver had passed him and was serving at a high rate of speed. At Pulaski, the Evergreen Park police ended their pursuit of the vehicle.
An Oak Lawn patrol officer soon saw a black Chevy and after noticing the car traveling at a high rate of speed and swerving, Oak Lawn began to follow the vehicle. When the Chevy reached Cicero Avenue, the driver stopped behind another car and two Oak Lawn officers boxed the car in behind a civilian’s car.
Requesting that the first car stay in its spot, the officers pounded on the window of the Chevy to get the driver’s attention, according to their report. The police allege that the driver was not complying with instructions, that he stared ahead in a blank manner.
Eventually, the man, identified as Kevin Gordon, was removed from the car. According to Oak Lawn police, Gordon had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, was slurring his speech and appeared to be confused. He didn’t answer several questions about where he lives according to the police. Allegedly, Gordon was unable to tell the police if he had been drinking and where he had come from before being stopped.
He refused to submit to a breathalyzer but did eventually admit he consumed vodka. He did take the field sobriety tests and the police claim that he showed impairment consistent with drinking. He was taken into custody by the Oak Lawn police and was charged with driving under the influence. Gordon, a 24 year old black male from Richton Park, is set to appear at the Bridgeview courthouse on Thursday to face the DUI charges. The events all took place at approximately 7 a.m. on Saturday, March 31st.
He also faces undisclosed charges in Evergreen Park after allegedly failing to stop for the police. No information is available as to the identity of the driver of the car that assisted the police officers in Oak Lawn.
