A call came into the dispatcher at 12:30 a.m. on April 21st that a man in a black Cadillac SUV was unresponsive in the drive thru of a Taco Bell on 95th Street in Oak Lawn.
Along with the paramedics, Oak Lawn police officers were dispatched and found the driver was alert and responsive. The driver said he was fine and the officer asked him to pull out of the drive thru lane in order to let others “think outside the bun”.
The driver, Ryan Thomas, allegedly told the officer that he was attempting to get food and go home. The police related that Thomas thought he was in the drive thru of McDonald’s, which is concerning because it is on the other side of 95th Street.
Thomas, in a bout of honesty, allegedly admitted to drinking “a lot” earlier in the day. The police officer claimed that Thomas may have been telling the truth since his eyes were bloodshot and glassy in his opinion. After field sobriety tests, the officer placed Thomas under arrest.
Thomas decided to forgo taking any other tests, such as a breathalyzer. The police claim that Thomas said he was driving on 95th Street after coming from TC’s Pub on Ridgeland. TC’s Pub has two locations and neither is on Ridgeland Avenue.
Thomas allegedly told police he was “wallowing my sorrows from my divorce”. He also told the police he had taken medication which was prescribed. Thomas, a 41 year old white male, provided a home address in Lake Villa. He was charged with driving under the influence.
