Oak Lawn residents often complain that criminals from Chicago come into Oak Lawn and commit crimes. Well, now residents in a city in Indiana may be complaining about residents of Oak Lawn coming into their community.
The Lafayette, Indiana police were called last Thursday night to an apartment complex after two men complained that they were robbed by a man and a woman who after engaging in small talk and hanging out, pointed a gun in their faces and stole their cellphones.
The two victims told the police that they left the area after the robbery and called police about 11:30 p.m. Thursday from a nearby business.
Lafayette police officers and detectives began investigating and confirmed the two men’s stories. The police were able to quickly locate the two suspects and take them into custody.
Destiny Johnson, 18, 3695 Commons Court, apartment E, Lafayette, and a 21-year-old man who refused to identify himself, were taken into custody on a charge of armed robbery and theft. She is being held in Tippecanoe County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 bond.
The man was jailed under the pseudonym “John Doe” because he refused to identify himself to the police when he was taken into custody. “John Doe” was charged with armed robbery, theft, carrying a handgun without a permit and criminal confinement. He also allegedly told the police he was only 19 years old.
Criminal defendants apparently don’t realize that not providing your name or providing a false name will not make the charges go away. Oak Lawn resident Andre Demon Jefferson’s true identity was discovered within hours and he was held as of yesterday in lieu of a $50,000 bond.
According to the Lafayette police, Jefferson’s address is 8904 S. 50th Court, in Oak Lawn, Illinois.
