Oak Lawn Water Bills to Increase
The Oak Lawn Village Board voted Tuesday to raise water rates. The City of Chicago passed a water rate increase of 1.54% on to its customers and that means you pay more. The increases go into effect on June 1, 2018. Oak Lawn’s regional customers will also pay more as a result of the increase. Chicago charges Oak Lawn $3.94 per 1,000 gallons of water. Oak Lawn charges residential customers based on usage at a rate of $6.360 up to $6.560 per thousand gallons with the residents using the most water, paying the highest rate.
Festivals Abound this Year in Oak Lawn
The Oak Lawn Village Board will approve celebrations and festivals for later in the year for various local groups including The Children’s Museum in Oak Lawn, Saint Catherine of Alexandria Parish, st. Germaine Parish, and St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church.
St. Catherine’s requested a permit for its annual summer fest, which takes place June 6th through June 10th. St. Nicolas Annual Greek Festival is scheduled for June 15 through June 17th and will have entertainment on all three days. The Children’s Museum in Oak Lawn is holding a family picnic on Saturday July 21st at Lake Shore Park. The day begins with a 10:00 a.m. “Kids concert featuring Jim Gill.” St. Germaine Parish has its event scheduled for August 23rd to 26th.
Township Spelling Bee Winners
Worth Township Supervisor John O’Sullivan recently announced the winners of the 41st Annual Lenon Wisdom Memorial Spelling Bee. The competition was held on Friday, April 27, 2018 at Worth Township. Participants were divided into the Junior Division consisting of 5th and 6th graders and the Senior Division consisting of 7th and 8th graders. The spellers were from schools throughout the Township. The winners of the Senior Division were as follows: (1) Patrick Driscoll, Grade 8 – Southwest Chicago Christian; (2) Helen Joyce,Grade 7 – Central Middle School; (3) Maura Henley, Grade 8-St. Catherine’s.
