On April 26th the Oak Lawn police were called to the Salvation Army Store at 87th and Cicero to investigate a theft report. A 35 year old female customer was trying on shoes and put her purse down. She briefly turned away to try on the shoes and her wallet was taken from inside the purse. The wallet contained two debit cards, a drivers license, $100 in cash and a credit card.
Police Get their Man But He Didn’t Hit and Run
On April 26th, the dispatchers radioed to the police that a white Chevy van, last seen driving east bound on 95th Street had been involved in an accident and left the scene. An officer soon saw a white van on Ridgeland heading south from 95th Street. The officer stopped the car and determined that Ricardo Cervantes Vasquez was not involved in the accident. However, the stop wasn’t totally useless since the driver did not have a valid license. He was arrested for driving on a suspended license.
Construction Company Employee Victimized
On April 26th, the police were called to the SAC fields lot at 93rd and Kolbourn where they met with a construction worker who had been doing work at the hospital. The 35 year old man told the police that the front passenger side door of his truck had been popped. Tools worth about $2,500 were stolen from the burglarized truck.
Another burglary to a car
Another woman complained that same day that someone removed cash from her wallet that she left in the car when she ran into Jewel. A $200 purse, a white gold ring, 12 Zofran pills, an inhaler, 55 Xanax pills and a debit card were also stolen by the unknown assailant.
Liar Liar Pants on Fire?
A police officer claimed that a car traveling 51 MPH in a 35 MPH zone was driven by Luis Romero at about 9400 Pulaski in the early morning hours of the 26th of April. Romero allegedly told the officer, who had insisted he stop the car, that he didn’t have a license and never had a license. A computer check of state records, however, indicated that Romero had once been issued a valid license. The truth is that his license had been previously suspended. He was arrested for driving on a suspended license and issued citations for speeding.
