Oak Lawn Wine And Spirits Gets License
Trustee William “Bud” Stalker provided a history of the shopping center at 103rd and Central and asked the board to support a liquor license for a new business at the site. Stalker said the shopping center has been in existence for as long as he has been in the neighborhood. He said the shopping center already had Feds convenience store at the location and that place sold liquor. He told the residents that they could ask for anything they want but the economic principal of “supply and demand” will dictate what operates at the store. He said that Feds has struggled and said he would prefer a liquor store instead of a convenience store. He said he supports the liquor license and said he would like the support of the board. Mayor Sandra Bury said that her liquor advisory board had supported the license unanimously. She also noted that the new license is the same classification as the one held by Feds. The board followed Stalker’s lead and supported the license.

Funds2Orgs helps impoverished people start, maintain and grow businesses in countries such as Haiti, Honduras and other nations in Central America and Africa. Proceeds from the shoe sales are used to feed, clothe and house their families. One budding entrepreneur in Haiti even earned enough to send to her son to law school.
Durbin and Lipinski Respond With Visit
Oak Lawn Community High School Senior Adem Osmani wrote a letter to both Congressman Dan Lipinski and U.S. Senator Dick Durbin requesting that they come to Oak Lawn Community High School as part of the national “student-driven” March for Our Lives gun control walkout on May 14, 2018. Both leaders acquiesced, and town-hall style meetings took place recently at the high school.
Adem moderated questions submitted from the students. Alexandria McGlynn assisted in the Lipinski Town Hall and Oak Lawn Mayor Sandra Bury assisted in the Durbin Town Hall. Adem said, “I just felt like we needed to take some action and a lot of us wanted answers, so I decided, why not reach out to the senator and try to get some answers?”
Oak Lawn Park District Pool Memberships Sale
The Oak Lawn Park District is already thinking about summer fun and perhaps, you should also. If you are a swimmer, you should know that the park district is now selling pool memberships for the Central Pool located at 9400 S. Kenton Ave., and the Centennial Aquatic Center located at 94th & Nashville. Frequent swimmers may be better off with a membership rather than paying every time you visit the pool. The park district also notes that membership has its privileges. Membership grants you admission to both pools during “open swim” sessions. Prices vary based on age and residency.
