The Oak Lawn Police arrived at Hope Children’s Hospital on May 7th after receiving a complaint of a battery.
The victim claimed that she was at the hospital visiting her one year old grandson and asked the child’s mother why the baby was “distant toward her”. Besides the obvious idea that it is a one year old child who is sick, the baby’s mother offered another alternative possibility. She told the victim that the woman was giving off “bad vibes” and the child didn’t know her because she was never around. The victim’s son, is the father of the child and was not present.
The victim told the police officer that the baby’s mother, identified as Christal Smith, insulted her for about 10 minutes when she eventually lashed out telling the baby’s mama “f… you, I don’t need to sit here and listen to you insult me”.
At the same time some hospital nurses were checking on the baby’s vitals and Smith allegedly asked the nurse to hold the child. When the nurse took possession of the child, Smith allegedly punched the victim in her face and pulled her hair as she was leaving the room, according to the victim. The nurses on duty served as referees, breaking up the two women who were entangled over the punching and hair pulling.
Christal Smith allegedly admitted the above facts but did say that the victim began arguing with her after she made the “bad vibes” observation. She also claimed that the victim was fighting back. The police arrested Christal Smith for battery. The victim was given a trespassing notice by the hospital and was advised to stay away.
Smith a 22 year old black female with a Chicago address, was transported back to the hospital after being issued an I-Bond at the police station.
