A homeowner near 106h and Lavergne was surprised to see a white SUV parked in his driveway because he doesn’t own an SUV.
When the Oak Lawn police arrived, they found the Nissan Juke halfway up the driveway and partially on the grass. The engine was still running and inside the vehicle a woman appeared to be passed out and slumping according to the police. The gear shift was allegedly in drive and an empty wine glass sat in the center cup holder.
The police claim that they woke the driver from her slumber by knocking on the window, which she then rolled down. The officer unlocked the car door and asked the woman to put the car in park.
The officer described the woman as “unstable on her feet and disoriented”. The officer reported that he had to explain to the woman, several times, that she was parked in a driveway that did not belong to her house. The officer alleged that he also smelled the odor of alcohol on the woman’s breath.
After conducting a field sobriety test on the woman, the officer placed her under arrest. An inventory search of the auto allegedly uncovered a loaded Glock 19 gun under the front driver’s seat. The gun allegedly contained 13 rounds of hollow point 9 mm ammunition. The woman did possess a concealed carry permit but being arrested for a DUI is a violation of the Illinois Conceal Carry Act, according to the police.
At the police station, the woman, identified as Porcsha Brown, submitted to the breathalyzer and allegedly scored a .174, which is over two times the legal limit for driving.
According to the police, Brown made a statement to the police stating that she left her Broadview home at 9:45 p.m. on May 19th and went to a home in the area of 115th Street and Hael Avenue in Chicago. Her recollection, according to the police, was that she had one shot of alcohol at the house and then went to a bar, that she couldn’t identify. She told the police that she had a margarita at the bar and left the bar at 1:30 a.m. Brown said someone else was driving her car and they were in Oak Lawn to drop off friends. She couldn’t remember where the friends live in Oak Lawn or how she ended up alone in the driveway of the homeowner.
In addition to the DUI charges, Brown, a 23 year old black female, was given a citation for an expired registration and not having insurance. She was also charged with misdemeanor unlawful use of a weapon for the violation of the conceal carry law.
