Anthony DiGangi was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of 16 grams of cannabis, and possession of drug equipment after being stopped by Oak Lawn police on traffic violations on June 26th.
DiGangi, of Oak Lawn, was driving westbound on 95th Street when his car’s expired license plate registration caused the officer to pull him over near Lacrosse Avenue. It didn’t get any better for DiGangi when he provided an expired driver’s license to the officer and allegedly could not produce proof of insurance for the vehicle.
The officer claimed that he could smell a strong odor of fresh cannabis and he said he saw “blunt wrappers” in the console area of the car. Nonetheless, when asked if there was anything illegal in the car, DiGangi allegedly issued a denial.
DiGangi allegedly allowed the officer to search the vehicle but when he stepped out of the vehicle and opened the door, the officer claimed that he could see a bag of marijuana in the front door compartment of the car.
The officer alleged that he also found six and a half green pills that were allegedly identified as Alprozolam. A blue metal pipe containing marijuana residue was located in the center console area, according to the officer.
The police also claim that they found a 40 caliber magazine containing two 40 caliber rounds in a jacket lying in the back seat of the car. DiGangi reportedly told the police the jacket belonged to him. He also allegedly told the officer he had a gun in the trunk of the car.
The officer claimed that he did find a Smith and Wesson Pistol on top of clothes and also recovered a “water bong”. DiGangi had a valid FOID card although he does not have a concealed carry license according to the police allegations.
DiGangi was arrested and the police claim that he said he bought the gun last year and carries it in his trunk because he works in a “bad area”. He allegedly admitted that he carries the gun when he has to close the business.
According to the allegations, DiGangi admitted that the marijuana as well as the pills belonged to him. Interestingly, he claimed that he buys the pills from a “family member” because they help him sleep and he doesn’t have a prescription according to the allegations.
DiGangi is a 22 year old white male who provided an Oak Lawn address of 9001 S. Cicero Avenue, in Oak Lawn, to the police.
