A woman signed a complaint against a man who allegedly told the police he was a Nigerian lawyer.
He didn’t send her an email promising millions of dollars if she could help him transfer money out of the African Country. His alleged crime was more personal and caused the victim to call the Oak Lawn police for help.
The victim entered the HOBO store at 8716 S. Cicero on July 11th to shop for some home supplies. She told the police that she was looking at items in the patio umbrella section when she felt a presence behind her and turned to look. When she looked behind her, she said she saw the Nigerian lawyer, Olumide Akinitemehin. According to the victim, he was allegedly standing within six inches of her touching her so she said she stepped to the side thinking she had gotten too close.
As she continued to walk around the store shopping, she noticed that she would turn around and find Akinitemehin standing next to her and allegedly almost touching her while sometimes looking at her according to her statement.
On one occasion, it is alleged that Akinitemehin brushed up against the woman’s hip. When she looked at him, she claims he stared at her and didn’t offer any apology. She told the police she left that area of the store, gathered her items and headed for the checkout area.
The victim alleged that Akinitemehin began following her toward the checkout and even after she paid. She left her cart and called the police.
When she called the police she alleges that Akinitemehin walked back into the store. She provided a description to the police and they located him in the store.
The police asked him if he had any confrontations with any females while he was in the store and he allegedly answered “no”. He also claimed he had just gotten to the store five minutes earlier.
The video surveillance of the store allegedly contradicted the man’s story about when he arrived. The video also allegedly shows the man looking at the victim while she’s checking out. According to the allegations, the woman’s story about the man following her as she left is supported by the video.
After his arrest Akinitemehin told the police he is a Nigerian lawyer on vacation with friends. He allegedly told the police that he was at HOBO with friends to get supplies for a project. He claimed that he never saw the victim and denied all the allegations.
He was charged with one count of battery and disorderly conduct. He is a 44 year old black male. Despite claiming to be a Nigerian lawyer, he provided the police with an address in Naperville.
