The Oak Lawn police issued excellent advice to a couple that came to the police station after a run in with the man’s ex-girlfriend that left the couple in fear for their lives.
The most recent incident occurred at an Oak Lawn home but the couple claimed that they had been subject to numerous threats. According to the couple, the other woman, Estefany Herandez, was supposed to hand off the child she co-parents with the man. Instead, Hernandez began arguing with the man when he showed up to pick up his son.
Hernandez allegedly told the man, “If you don’t leave her and come back to me, I’ll kill both of you.”
The couple claimed that Herandez came at them with her fists clenched and they left in their car. Herandez also left the area in her car. Both victims told the police that they would sign complaints.
Herandez is a 30 year old white female with a Chicago address. The police suggested that the couple obtain an order of protection.
In order to procure an order of protection, a victim needs to fill out a few forms and attend a court hearing. The statistics from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention underscore the issue of domestic violence. 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men will experience severe physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime.
