The Oak Lawn police were notified that a Gray Ford Focus had allegedly caused property damage in Evergreen Park and the car was last seen traveling toward Oak Lawn.
An Oak Lawn officer on patrol in the area of 103rd and Pulaski saw a car matching that description traveling without its headlights in working order. The officer alleged that the driver was swerving left and right while traveling in the left and middle lanes. By 109th and Pulaski, the Oak Lawn officer had the vehicle stopped.
Evergreen Park police arrived to tell everyone that the victim in their town was not pursing a criminal damage to property complaint and there didn’t seem to be much interest in pursing traffic charges in Evergreen Park.
The Oak Lawn officer, however, claimed that he smelled alcohol on the breath of the female driver. He alleged that she had bloodshot eyes as he looked at her near 3 a.m. on Thursday the 9th of August.
The driver of the car, Jenan Haleem, agreed to exit the car and allegedly took a field sobriety test that the police alleged she failed. She agreed to a preliminary breath test and again, the police claim she failed the test, blowing a .145 blood alcohol content, which is pretty close to twice the legal limit of .o8.
Haleem was placed into custody and handcuffed to the smallest setting possible. The handcuffs could not hold Haleem because on the way to the police station, the police claim she was able to pull one of her hands out of the cuffs. The police officer transporting Haleem claimed that she then “punched out” the back window of the squad car. Another officer assisted and Haleem was finally delivered to the lockup.
While in the lockup she made statements that caused the police to take her to the hospital, where she refused a blood test or to cooperate according to the police. Haleem was charged with one felony count of criminal damage to property for punching out the squad window. She was also charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and received traffic citations for not having headlights working, improper lane usage, and not wearing a seat belt.
Haleem is a 36 year old white female with an Alsip address.
