An Oak Lawn police officer was called to the 8700 block of Mobile Avenue on August 14th at about 4:30 p.m. where a female adult was in an argument with two teenage boys. The police allege the woman was intoxicated.
The officer also recognized the woman from a call just forty five minutes earlier at Les Brothers restaurant at 87th and Ridgeland. The restaurant claimed that a woman left after refusing to pay a $7.00 bill.
The boys wanted the 46 year old Oak Lawn resident to leave and the woman, Maureen Woodworth, claimed that she just wanted to get back to 115th and Kedzie Avenue. The officer volunteered to drive her to the village’s boundary at 111th and Pulaski and Woodworth agreed to leave the scene.
When the officer opened the squad door for Woodworth, he alleged that Woodworth slapped and then grabbed his left buttock. When the officer then told Woodworth she was under arrest she allegedly said, “please don’t do this, I just grabbed your ass”.
At the police station, Woodworth allegedly told the police she knew how to play the game and avoid going to court by instead going to the hospital. She allegedly refused to allow the officers to fingerprint her and fell to the floor, requiring officers to pick her up. Eventually, Woodworth began screaming, according to the police, and stated that she was going to have a stroke if she didn’t have her medication, which she said was in her purse.
The police couldn’t find medicine in her purse and she continued claiming that she would have a stroke. The Oak Lawn fire department was called to the lockup to provide assistance and possible transportation to the hospital. As Woodworth was being shackled, the officers alleged that her shorts fell to the floor and she refused to wear pants or shorts to the hospital according to the police. She was transported to the hospital without pants and fingerprinted at the hospital.
Woodworth, a 46 year old white female, with an Oak Lawn address, was charged with battery for grabbing the officer’s behind. She was given a village ordinance citation for leaving the restaurant without paying the bill and told she will be arrested if she ever returns to the restaurant.
