A man stands accused of assault and theft after allegedly entering Jewel Food store on 88th and Ridgeland and attempting to take four bottles of Jack Daniels liquor.
Store security alleged that Ayman Abdelaziz was identified on the closed circuit security system in the store as he allegedly loaded four 1.75 liter bottles of Jack Daniels into a black backpack. When he allegedly walked past the registers without paying, two employees stopped Abdelaziz on September 7th at about 5:30 p.m.
Abdelaziz decided to exercise a few options by allegedly dropping the merchandise and trying to leave the store. The two employees claimed that they then grabbed onto Abdelaziz and told him to stay until the police arrived.
Abdelaziz didn’t like that idea so he allegedly threatened to stab the two employees with an HIV infected hypodermic needle. Despite not seeing a needle, the two employees didn’t like the idea of being stabbed with such a needle and quickly let go of the suspect.
Abdelaziz allegedly then walked away toward Les Brother’s Restaurant. When the police arrived, they were told that Abdelaziz had entered Les Brothers so they entered the establishment and told the staff that they were looking for a man wearing a long sleeved blue and white striped shirt.
The police checked the spacious gaming lounge but couldn’t locate a man fitting that description. They then checked the men’s room. There was a man in the stall but they couldn’t be sure it was him. So, they looked inside the small slit and saw a male wearing such a shirt. The police asked him to come out and he did so. He was taken out of the restaurant after allegedly admitting he had been at Jewel.
Abdelaziz allegedly admitted to being a Heroin addict and allegedly said he planned to use the booze to get money to buy dope. He was charged with one count of retail theft and one count of assault.
Abdelaziz is a 30 year old white male with a Joliet address.
