At about 8:30 p.m. on October 8th, Oak Lawn police officers were dispatched to a home in Oak Lawn after a 9-1-1 caller alleged that she was being “choked” by a white male.
According to the police, the woman said that her mother had died two days ago and she invited McCarthy over to her residence to drink alcohol. The two are not “dating” and according to the woman they are, or more likely now were, “just friends”.
The police were waived down by a frantic female who identified herself as the caller. she then pointed to a beige Dodge Durango and said “that’s him”. The first officer approached the vehicle and told the man, identified as Eugene McCarthy, to get out of the car.
According to the police, McCarthy made an admission allegedly stating “I made a mistake”. The police reported that McCarthy then told the officer that he put his hand on the woman’s neck and pushed her down. He denied choking the woman.
The officer’s asked what the argument was about. McCarthy allegedly told the officers that he didn’t know what hey were arguing about. The woman said that the McCarthy and her started arguing and McCarthy “punched her in the neck, knocking her down to the ground”.
At first, the woman refused to tell the officer what the two friends were arguing about. However, as the officer was speaking with McCarthy, the woman tried to help the investigation along by stating, “why don’t you tell them about the crack”. McCarthy then allegedly told the police the two were arguing about crack cocaine but denied smoking crack that day.
McCarthy was taken into custody while the woman was informed about the process of obtaining an order of protection. McCarthy is a 55 year old white male with a Palos Hills address.
