The Oak Lawn police arrested a woman at the Midway Motel on October 16th who was using an alias because she was wanted on multiple warrants for forgery, fraud and identity theft.
An officer was patrolling the parking lot checking random license plates when the name Saquita Jones, owner of a blue Mercedes, came back with outstanding warrants from DuPage County, Illinois, Osceola County, Florida, and Lake County, Indiana.
After waiting for backup, the officers spoke with the clerk at the motel to find out if Saquita Jones was registered to a room. Saquita Jones wasn’t listed on the registry but her car was registered to one of the rooms. Another woman’s name, Latisha W. West, was listed as renting the room in question.
The officers showed the clerk a photo of Saquita Jones and Latisha West to the clerk after comparing the photos themselves. The two woman had similarities but a major discrepancy listed on their licenses was the weight.
The investigation continued with the officers knocking on the door, which was opened by a man. One of the officers noted that a “larger” sized woman went into the bathroom as the door was opened. When asked what the woman’s name is, the male companion said that the officers would have to ask the woman directly.
When the woman returned to the room she was “wrapped in bedding” and allegedly told the officers that her name was Latisha West. An ID also said her name was Latisha West. When the officers asked the woman who Saquita is, the woman said it is her sister claiming she was at home.
The officers looked at the driver’s license of Latisha West and noticed that the weight on the license was only 120 pounds but the woman standing before them weighed noticeably more than 120 pounds. On one of Saquita’s warrants the listed weight was 300 pounds.
One of the warrants also noted that Saquita had a tattoo of a rose on her left wrist. The woman too had a tattoo, that she claimed was a vine. The warrant also noted two other tattoos behind her ears. “CB” was a tattoo behind her left ear.
The officers held up the photo of Saquita and compared it to the woman claiming to be Latisha. The officers decided that the wait was over for this weighty issue. The woman was allowed to get dressed and then taken into custody. While taken into custody, the police found a bank card and insurance card with the name Saquita Jones on each.
At the lockup the woman allegedly admitted that she was indeed Saquita Jones prior to the police verifying it with fingerprint evidence.
The police verified that Saquita Jones had an outstanding warrant from DuPage County and for forgery. She was wanted on a warrant from Indiana for multiple check fraud. Florida’s warrant stated she was wanted for defrauding a pawn shop and identity theft.
According to the police Saquita said she used the Latisha West driver’s license with the much lighter weight to rent the room and presented it to the police because she knew she was probably wanted on the warrants.
The Cook County State’s Attorney refused to approve felony charges for obstructing justice so she was charged with a misdemeanor of obstructing identification and unlawful use of an identification card. She was also held on the outstanding warrants and was taken into custody at the Cook County Jail a day later. Her next court date is November 19th in Bridgeview.
Saquita Jones is a 36 year old black female with an address in Glenwood.
