Oak Lawn’s Failure May Cost Commuters 30 Months
Oak Lawn Village Manager Larry Deetjen has been taking a “victory” lap for the Beatty Lumber project that will result in a redirection of the traffic from the Metra garage. The problem is that the Advocate building will be built long before any traffic signals are installed on 95th Street to handle the new traffic flow patterns. Despite hiring a state lobbyist, who incidentally just dropped a grand on the Mayor’s party fundraiser, the Illinois Department of Transportation has not approved the new traffic light.
Currently traffic is released onto 52nd Avenue. The new traffic pattern is set to move traffic to 95th Street instead but a traffic signal is needed. Without the traffic signal being installed in a timely manner, the village will have to figure out an alternative plan. The result is that Deetjen is only now informing the Trustees that the administration is making plans for a 30 month period of what some call a traffic nightmare near the Metra station.
