Some Oak Lawn residents are raising a storm of protest about a man that they say is a former school crossing guard who is now under arrest for allegedly assaulting a 17 year old passenger he was driving as a “Lyft Driver”.
The social media protest stems from the fact that the Village of Oak Lawn fired all of their crossing guards for this school year and outsourced the contract to a private company. That private company hired Anthony Vicari, to serve as a crossing guard at 98th and Kostner where he served until a few days ago.
One post summed up the disgust about firing employees in favor of contracting with companies, stating, “This is what happens when you outsource.”
Anthony Vicari, a 40 year old white male, of Chicago, was arrested and charged with battery Monday in the Village of Lyons after picking up a 17 year old girl from her friend’s house in the Village of Worth and driving her to her home in Lyons.
The girl told Lyons police that during that ride, Vicari made repeated sexual advances towards her, including rubbing her leg and thigh, and asked her questions about performing a sexual act. He also allegedly asked her to go to a motel with him.
The Lyons police claim that Vicari was identified as the driver and made a voluntary statement in which he to touching the teen’s legs.
Some social media posters were not happy with the fact claiming Vicari was a crossing guard helping young girls cross the streets to school. One mother called him a “piece of S…” after hearing about the charge on television and claimed on her own post that Vicari was a school crossing guard in Oak Lawn.
According to published reports, Lyons police requested felony charges but the request was denied by the Cook County State’s Attorney because the victim was not under the age of 17. Vicari was charged with battery due to the alleged groping or touching.
