Last month, near midnight, the Oak Lawn police were dispatched to the J.C. Miami Motel, at 9041 S. Cicero after being told that two black male subjects were physically fighting in the parking lot.
When the police arrived the two men were no longer entangled in the fight but they were yelling at each other. The police were able to talk to the two men, other witnesses, and an employee at the motel to piece together the entire story which resulted in both men suffering facial injuries.
The first man, an Oak Lawn resident, was walking to his vehicle with his girlfriend when he saw another man in the parking lot. According to the girlfriend, the first man had been drinking all day.
The men claimed that they didn’t know each other but the man with the girlfriend began yelling at the other man despite his girlfriend’s attempt to get him to leave. The girlfriend wasn’t able to stop the Oak Lawn man who charged toward the second man and punched him in the face causing a fight to break out between the two men.
The fight didn’t last long and the men separated for a short period before the second man allegedly picked up a bottle and threw it at the first man. The police showed up at that time and tried to get statements from each man. The Oak Lawn man was not cooperative and while handcuffed allegedly began banging his head on the ground.
Neither man wanted to sign a complaint for battery and the man who was banging his head was transported to the hospital. J.C. Miami Motel determined that it does not want either man on the property and they have been banned from returning.
Since neither man pursued charges, neither man was charged with battery. The Oak Lawn man is 24 years old. The other man is a 33 year old Chicago man.
