Ridgeland School District’s PTO and PTA organizations have set May 4th as the date for this year’s “Color Fun Run”.
The 3K run starts and ends at Kolb School. Organizers assured the Village of Oak Lawn that the route focuses on less traveled side streets and does not cross any major thoroughfares.
The PTO and PTA members are volunteering to monitor the route with runners gathering at 8 a.m. and the run starting at 9 a.m. Last year the group had about 200 participants and they expect an increase of about 10 percent more if the weather cooperates.
The idea of the run has been to mark the end of a school year with a fun event in which students and families can participate. While families run, or walk, powdered color that easily watches out of clothing is thrown at the participants.
As community members themselves, the PTO and PTA organizers are cognizant of the need to warn residents about the event. As such, they have agreed to deliver written notices to the residents along the rout advising them of the route and asking them to not park on the streets of the route.
