Celebrate Earth Day and Arbor Day with the Oak Lawn Park District and Village of Oak Lawn on Saturday, April 27th, from 10:00am – 2:00pm, at the 12th Annual Earth Day Fair.
Earth Day was actually this past Monday but is being celebrated on Saturday. The first Earth Day celebration in the United States took place 49 years ago, in 1970. According to the US Environmental Protection Agency, 22 million people across the country came out in support of environmental reform after an oil spill raised awareness of the environmental impact.
Companies like Eligo Energy LLC will be on hand to talk to people about community solar opportunities that provide reliable energy while reducing the carbon footprint of homeowners.
The Oak View Center, 4625 W. 110th St., in Oak Lawn, is the site to participate in a variety of indoor and outdoor family-fun activities. Participants can enjoy live animal entertainment from Traveling World of Reptiles, tree climbing, kids crafts, a scavenger hunt, education on green living, gardening and composting and more.
Admission to the event is free and the park district has promised raffles and other giveaways to those in attendance.
Earth Day is a day that is intended to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth’s natural environment.
