Over 14,000 people are expected to walk to honor the spirit of hope and heighten awareness for community care in the 20th Beverly Breast Cancer Walk on Mother’s day.
The Beverly Breast Cancer Walk (BBCW) is a 3-mile walk held annually on Mother’s Day through the historic Beverly neighborhood of Chicago. Built from the courage and strength of Chicagoans affected by breast cancer, the event has grown from 30 people in 2000 to more than 14,000 who have raised more than $6 million, becoming one of Chicago’s most celebrated – and locally impactful – breast cancer fundraising events.
Over the past 19 years, the Beverly Breast Cancer Walk (BBCW) has raised more than $6 million to support Little Company of Mary Hospital’s award-winning Comprehensive Breast Health Center, impacting the lives of thousands of breast cancer survivors. With generous community support in 2018, the BBCW was able to sustain its funding of current breast health programming and continue deepening its impact with support of the BBCW Crisis Fund to assist LCMH breast cancer patients with emergent financial needs within our community. Additionally, a portion of the 2018 event proceeds continued to support our “sister-walk” partnership with the international organization, People Helping People, bringing much-needed diagnostic equipment, oncology supplies and medical services to breast cancer patients in poverty-stricken San Salvador, El Salvador.
The 2019 Beverly Breast Cancer Walk continues our commitment to further serving the needs of breast cancer patients and survivors in the Chicago Southland and suburban areas such as Oak Lawn and Evergreen Park.
The walk’s top funding priorities include: providing support to expand breast health programming at Little Company of Mary Hospital and assistance to those who may be in financial crisis during their treatment; funding for its “sister walk” bringing help to women with breast cancer in San Salvador; and empowering survivors to thrive.
The walk harnesses hometown pride as it honors those impacted by the disease and raises funds for the state-of-the-art treatment and services provided by Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park. Goals for this year’s milestone event include sustaining funding of breast health programs, increasing support of the BBCW Crisis Fund to assist local patients and families in financial distress, and empowering survivors to thrive.
The walk is Sunday, May 12, 2019 at 7:45 a.m. The annual Mother McAuley Mother’s Day Mass in celebration of the BBCW is at 6:45 a.m. at the walk site in Ridge Park at 9625 S. Longwood Drive, in Chicago.
